Tithe, a Modern Faerie Tale
By: Holly Black
Pages: 331 (Paperback)
Publisher: Simon Pulse

Sixteen-year-old Kaye is a modern nomad. Fierce and independent, she travels from city to city with her mother's rock band until an ominous attack forces Kaye back to her childhood home home. There amid the industrial, blue-collar New Jersey backdrop, Kaye soon finds herself an unwilling pawn in ancient power struggle between two rival faerie kingdoms-a struggle that could very well mean her death.

This book is fantastic! After reading this Holly Black quickly became one of my favorite authors. Kaye is quite an interesting character. She can be very mischievous, but she is also very courageous. Kaye will do anything to save her friends' lives. Holly leads you on an awesome adventure through her 21 century version of the world of faerie. The plot is beautifully played out, it leaves you gasping and sitting on the edge of your seat.
Holly describes the setting so precisely that you might just lose yourself in her world of faerie. Not only did she describe the setting well, but her characters are also described wonderfully! By the end of the book you know the personality of each and every one of her characters. The only negative I have about this book is that the cover is... blah. It gives no hint to the wonderful story inside. (The language in this book is not suitable for all ages)
I give it four and a half out of five hearts. :)
