     Shiver
     By: Maggie Stiefvater
     Pages: 392
     Publisher: Scholastic Press

For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—is a chilling presence she can't seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human . . . until the cold makes him shift back again.

Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It's her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human—or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.

I really enjoyed this book. This a wonderful story of longing, love, and loss. Some of my favorite parts are spent at the beginning of the book. I really enjoyed Grace's alone time with her wolf, those have to be some of the calmest and most peaceful times in the book. This book is different than most werewolf books I have read, and I liked that. The wolves are actually wolves, not some odd creature that is huge and looks like a man-wolf. I also enjoyed that they don't change every full moon, but I am not going to tell you how or when they change you will have to read to find out.
Unfortunately there was one thing that I wasn't a huge fan of, the lack of love shown between Grace and her parents. I felt like saying, "Come on mom! She was attacked by wolves ages ago! Get over it and move on and start loving your daughter again!" Other than that, I really like this book. Stiefvater knew exactly how to keep you turning the page. She keeps you interested in the story until the very last word. I loved the ending, it left me longing for the second book! (Content not suitable for all ages)
I give it four out of five hearts :)

  1. Shiver was great. The story really kept me hooked; not knowing how long Sam was going to be here. (I don't want to give anything away) The love at first sight, even as seperate species was amazing.
How she describes "her" wolf and can identify his howl. And his eyes, trusting him in both forms. The way Sam loves her and would do anything to stay with her. To give up all he's ever known for her. That kind of love is inspirational. I can't wait to read the second book.
What you wrote Melissa was dead on. It really was a great book. Thank you for tuning me into it. I look forward to reading the other books that you blogged about.
